About Michael
Hello! My name is Michael Frim, and I am a high school math and physics teacher based in California. I have a Bachelor’s degree in physics from Harvard University and have been teaching and tutoring in physics, math, and other subjects for nine years. I have taken courses in classical mechanics, electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, optical/laser physics, quantum information, general relativity, and the philosophy of physics. I have also pursued research in the field of atomic, molecular, and optical physics. Regarding math, I have studied multivariable calculus and theoretical linear algebra in structured class environments, and I have also seen important applications of this math through physics. As for my teaching credentials, I currently work at the Kehillah School in Palo Alto, CA as a math and physics teacher, teaching Geometry, Algebra 2, and Physics. In addition to my classroom teaching, I am an experienced one-on-one tutor. Topics I have tutored include classical mechanics and electrodynamics, at both high school and university levels, as well as in linear algebra and calculus. Outside of the classroom, I play volleyball, I dabble in creative writing, and I am hoping to return to playing violin.

The reason I love tutoring in physics and math is that each one of these subjects is embedded with puzzles. My goal in teaching is to impart on my students how much fun it can be to solve puzzles in these three subjects and to solve those puzzles to understand the world around us.
I have tutored a number of students who believe that they are simply unable to understand the material in math or physics at a high level. However, I genuinely believe that with proper instruction every student is capable of understanding physics and math in an intuitive way. I work to demonstrate this reality in sessions by never giving away the answer to a problem; I instead use leading questions to get the student to understand the problem as a whole instead of just the answer.
Lessons can vary depending on student needs. Often, especially when students are seeking instruction to supplement their classes, my lessons will be designed to aid students in understanding the course material by working through chosen example problems together or by reviewing lecture material to understand the principles in new ways.

Perfect! Fantastic tutor.
Perfect! He explained concepts very well and he is a very good teacher.
Perfect! Michael is an excellent tutor and very knowledgeable! He helped me with completing an assignment for my college physics class! Without his help I would not have passed the class. Highly recommend Michael for your physics needs!
