About Brianna

I am a Mathematics student at the University of California, Irvine, with a strong academic background in mathematics and experience supporting students in their learning. I have previous tutoring experience from high school, as well as experience as a STEM camp instructor and educational makerspace specialist. My completed coursework includes calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations, giving me a solid foundation in mathematical concepts and problem-solving.

I understand that math can sometimes feel overwhelming, so I strive to create a patient, welcoming learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace. My goal is to help students strengthen their understanding, develop effective problem-solving skills, and build confidence in their mathematical abilities.

My approach as a tutor is centered on helping students understand the “why” behind what they are learning rather than simply memorizing steps. I first try to identify what a student already understands and where they are getting stuck, then adjust my explanation and examples to fit their learning style. I use guided practice, worked examples, visual representations when helpful, and questions that encourage students to work through problems independently. I also try to create a comfortable environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions and make mistakes without feeling judged.

A typical lesson begins with a brief review of previous material and a discussion of the student’s goals or areas of difficulty. I then introduce or review the relevant concept, work through a few examples with the student, and gradually transition to problems they can solve independently. I leave time at the end to review common mistakes, answer remaining questions, and make sure the student can explain the concept in their own words.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to break down challenging mathematical concepts into manageable steps while being patient and adaptable. As a student who has progressed through high level math courses, I understand how overwhelming mathematics can feel. My experience teaching STEM activities to students at a summer camp has also helped me learn how to communicate technical ideas in an engaging and accessible way.

I am primarily interested in tutoring middle school and high school math including Algebra I-II, Precalculus, and Calculus I-II. I am also confident tutoring higher level subjects such as introductory linear algebra and introductory differential equations. Additionally, I am comfortable working with students who may need additional support building confidence, developing problem-solving strategies, or strengthening foundational skills.
