About Dakota
I started out as a self taught artist before I went to college for more formal art training. I now spend my days at an after school program teaching art to children and I would love to expand and share this knowledge with more people!
My background in teaching myself how to draw and paint plays a huge role in my teaching style, I understand that some may be coming into art as a blank slate and I will be able to help tackle that in a less daunting and informal way. I strive to help mold your perspective into that of an artist so you can truly understand how to tackle any art medium!

My teaching style stems from my background of being self taught, and now teaching art to children. I know how to approach the task and students in a comforting and encouraging manner. I truly believe everyone has an artistic side and I strive to draw that out of everyone!
A typical lesson plan from me would consist of discussing the project from a historical standpoint. Answering questions such as how has this medium previously been used? And what important artists have worked in this medium? We would then begin to discuss the goals of the project (what you will learn and take away). Most importantly we will go over the techniques and how to execute them for the project. I like to spend extra time with this because ultimately it will help to improve your skills as an artist.
What sets me apart from other tutors? I have had a strong passion for teaching since a young age and I am so excited to finally be doing it! My range in ages that I have worked with has helped me to approach everyone with the same encouragement and belief that they are capable of great creativity and producing meaningful art. I also love to have fun in my lessons I feel as if it helps the student to not be too intimidated with art and allows them to loosen up when creating.
My lessons can be applied to all ages!
