About Katelynn
I am a graduate from the University of Memphis for both my BA and MA. I am currently working on my PhD in education. I have been a tutor for 4 years, a professor for 2, and I taught 1st through 12th grade French for a year. I believe the classroom is a safe space for students to explore their curiosities of different cultures and languages. In the classroom, I incorporate student questions and interests into the appropriate subject lessons as well as conducting student-led conversations. Curriculum is led by a series of Can-do statements for what will be required for assessment, making parts of the lesson into accessible checklists for students to stay on task and organized. Language learning and mastery require self-discipline and willingness to communicate and make mistakes. In my classroom, I like to emphasize student participation and practice while making corrections where necessary. The most important aspects of my teaching are creating comprehension through lessons taught in the target language because, in my experience, acquisition occurs when students hear the language consistently, student communication and usage of the language in a safe environment where mistakes are encouraged and correction helps to heighten skill level as well as allowing students to question and learn by negotiating meaning, and support through reading and writing to see and use grammar for practical practice.
