About Charles
I am a university graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a strong interest in mathematics and helping students build confidence in their mathematical abilities. I have approximately 2–4 years of mathematics tutoring experience, working with students from elementary-level mathematics through college-level differential calculus.
My tutoring experience includes supporting incoming college students at CUNY Hostos Community College, providing mathematics tutoring through the Varsity Tutors platform, and helping fellow college students and classmates strengthen their understanding of mathematics. I have experience working with students one-on-one and in online tutoring environments, allowing me to adapt my teaching style to different learning needs.
My approach is patient, supportive, and step-by-step. Rather than simply giving students answers, I explain why and how each step works, using examples and practice problems to reinforce concepts. I encourage students to ask questions, work through problems with guidance, and gradually develop the confidence to solve similar problems independently.
Subjects I can support include elementary mathematics, pre-algebra, algebra, college algebra, functions and graphing, and introductory differential calculus.
My nursing background has also strengthened my critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and attention to detail. As a tutor, my goal is to make mathematics easier to understand and help students develop skills they can confidently apply in the classroom, on exams, and in future courses.

Mathematics does not have to feel difficult or intimidating. I believe every student can improve in math when concepts are explained clearly and patiently, at a pace that matches their learning style.
With 2–4 years of tutoring experience, I have worked with students from elementary mathematics through differential calculus, including incoming college students and fellow university students. I also have experience providing one-on-one and online tutoring, which allows me to adapt lessons to each student’s needs.
My teaching approach focuses on understanding, not memorization. I break challenging problems into simple, manageable steps, explain the reasoning behind each step, and provide practice until you feel confident solving problems independently.
As a Bachelor’s-prepared Nursing graduate, I understand the importance of discipline, critical thinking, problem-solving, and patience.
