About Charlotte
I am a history graduate student, and I began tutoring four years ago as a part-time student job. Over the course of my studies, I discovered that I had a sincere passion for helping students. First and foremost I passionately believe that every student should have the chance to enjoy and feel confident in the subjects that I love so much- English and History. I am an understanding, approachable and supportive tutor, and lessons with me are geared towards building the knowledge, skills and confidence which see great results in students. My teaching style has always revolved around being encouraging and patient. I really hope to build confidence and enjoyment, so I keep a positive attitude. As I say to all my students – having a go and getting it wrong is just an opportunity to learn. It is important to me that my lessons are a safe space for students to try their best and feel encouraged.

Hi! I’ve been an online tutor for four years now, as I tutored throughout my studies for my BA in history/English and my MA in medical history and humanities.
Lessons with me typically last 1-2 hours and work towards a specific objective set at the start of the lesson. All my lessons are specifically tailored to a student’s needs. Some prefer to direct the content and objectives of a lesson themselves, e.g. looking for help going over a difficult topic they did in school that week. I am a flexible tutor and can adapt quickly and easily to a change in the planned lesson if something comes up that a student wishes to address. Other students prefer me to guide them, following a sequence of lessons designed to work on a specific skillset – e.g. language analysis or making an argument. I have tutored students who need help boosting their knowledge of content and have spent time creating PowerPoints and other resources to help them consolidate their knowledge. With other students I have worked on honing exam technique – planning questions, writing example answers and looking at feedback. It is important to me that students feel heard and as though the lessons fit their needs, so I always check in at the beginning and end of the lesson and am receptive to feedback. I have had particular success and experience in exam preparation – working on essay writing skills and textual analysis.
My qualifications mean I have extensive subject knowledge and skills in History and English. On top of this, my four years tutoring experience mean that I am familiar with tutoring KS3, GCSE and A-level students. I am familiar with a range of exam boards, including AQA GCSE English/History, Edexcel A-level and GCSE English and History, Cambridge iGCSE history and WJEC A-level English. I have taught the main English GCSE texts – Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, Merchant of Venice, the AQA poetry anthologies, An Inspector Calls, The Woman in Black, Jekyll and Hyde and the Christmas Carol. U have also taught GCSE English language. Similarly, I have tutored several history topics – The Cold war, Germany 1900-1945, Russia, 1890-1989, The Tudors, Communist China, The Stuarts, Elizabeth I and Medicine through Time. I am familiar with both the skills needed at KS3 level, and the specific assessment objectives different exam boards are looking for, and how to answer a variety of exam questions to achieve the best results.
