About Zara

I am a Quebec-certified teacher with a Teaching Brevet from the Ministry of Education and a GA Level 5 Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)

I am currently completing a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership at McGill University, with a focus on curriculum design, organizational management, and inclusive education

My professional experience includes working as an ESL teacher with adolescents and adult newcomers in Montreal, as well as providing one-on-one online tutoring to learners worldwide

I also serve as a substitute teacher with the English Montreal School Board, where I support both elementary and secondary classrooms in maintaining safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environments

I bring both classroom expertise and individualized tutoring experience to every session. My lessons are thoughtfully planned, structured, and aligned with clear learning objectives. Students receive personalized feedback, practical strategies for improvement, and consistent support to ensure measurable progress.

Beyond qualifications, I prioritize professionalism, organization, and communication. I manage scheduling reliably, provide clear expectations, and create a respectful, supportive atmosphere where students feel confident taking risks and growing in their language skills.

Whether you are preparing for exams, improving professional communication, or building foundational English skills, you can expect structured guidance, evidence-based teaching methods, and a tutor who is fully committed to your success.

My Teaching Methodology & Techniques

My teaching approach is communicative, structured, and student-centered. I believe language is best learned through meaningful interaction rather than memorization alone. I design lessons that prioritize real-world communication, confidence-building, and practical language use.

I draw from:

Task-based learning to help students use English in purposeful, goal-oriented ways

Explicit grammar instruction embedded in context rather than isolated drills

Literacy-focused strategies for reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and writing structure

Digital tools and interactive materials to make online learning engaging and dynamic

My goal is not just accuracy - it is confidence, clarity, and independence.

What a Typical Lesson Looks Like

Each lesson is structured but flexible, depending on the student’s goals and level.

A typical 60-minute lesson may include:

Warm-up (5–10 minutes)
Conversational practice or a quick review of previous material.

Target Focus (15–20 minutes)
Introduction of new vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, or a specific skill (e.g., persuasive writing, speaking fluency, listening strategies).

Guided Practice (15–20 minutes)
Interactive activities such as role-plays, discussion prompts, reading analysis, writing exercises, or real-life simulations.

Application & Feedback (10–15 minutes)
Independent production (speaking or writing) with clear, constructive feedback and correction strategies.

Students always leave with:

- Clear notes
- Personalized feedback
- Practical strategies to continue improving between sessions

What Sets Me Apart

What makes my tutoring unique is the combination of academic expertise and relational teaching.

I am an Educational Masters student. I hold a teaching Brevet and a GA level 5 TEFL diploma. I have experience working online and in schools.

I understand curriculum design and assessment, so lessons are intentional and goal-oriented.

I prioritize building student confidence, especially for learners who feel anxious speaking English.

I personalize every lesson to match learning style, pace, and objectives.

I integrate real-world topics and culturally responsive materials to make learning meaningful.

I don’t believe in “one-size-fits-all” teaching. Every learner has strengths — my role is to help you use them.

I work with:

Elementary and secondary students (ESL support and literacy development)

High school students preparing for exams
