About Troy
For the entirety of my life, education has been central to my self-actualization. Growing up in a household led by two public school teachers, the seriousness of learning - and the doors of civic and/or professional opportunity it opens - was instilled in me from an early age. As I progressed through my own schooling, I came to learn that the work of educating others (and being educated by them in turn) is the most fulfilling in which one can engage. Now, as I look to return to graduate school in the fall of 2024 after gaining formal classroom experience over the past two school years, I look forward to delving into tutoring as a way to remain active on my gap year.

- I use the Socratic Method of question-posing to stretch the thinking of my pupils without instilling dependence.
- I believe learning happens through failure, revision, and repetition in that order; my pedagogy is opposed to traditional letter grading and other punitive practices; routine self-reflection and dialogue are instead how we will demonstrate learning together.
- Co-design is crucial to my lesson planning. In other words, we will discuss your interests and together figure out the most effective ways to integrate them into study, no matter the topic.
- My lessons are scalable by age and ability; I have experience both with middle school instruction and as an undergraduate teaching assistant at the university level.
