About Cassandra
I’m a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in Psychology, and I’m currently completing my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Johns Hopkins University.
I’m patient, approachable, and genuinely enjoy working with students. I know that school can feel frustrating when a subject doesn’t click right away, so I focus on making lessons supportive, engaging, and tailored to each student’s learning style.
Whether you need help with an assignment, want to strengthen their reading or writing skills, or are preparing for the ACT, I’m here to help them feel more confident and capable!

My Teaching Method & Techniques:
My approach is encouraging, and tailored to each student's individual needs.
For writing, this may include brainstorming, organizing ideas, developing strong arguments, and revising drafts. For reading, I focus on comprehension, identifying key ideas, analyzing passages, and developing strategies for approaching challenging questions. For ACT preparation, I incorporate targeted practice, test-taking strategies, timing techniques, and review of missed questions to identify patterns and areas for improvement.
A Typical Lesson
Lessons are flexible and adapted to the student's goals, but I typically begin with a brief review of previous material and then, a warm-up activity. We then focus on a specific skill or area of difficulty, followed by guided practice where we work through examples together. Students then have an opportunity to apply the skill independently while I provide feedback and support.
What Sets Me Apart
I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and working through challenging material without feeling discouraged. I focus on building both skills and confidence.
I also understand that every student learns differently. I adapt my explanations, examples, and pacing based on what works best for the individual student rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
Who My Lessons Are For
I work with students from elementary school through high school and can provide support in:
* English and language arts
* Reading comprehension
* Essay and creative writing
* Grammar, vocabulary, and editing
* School assignments and academic support
* Study and test-taking skills
* ACT English and Reading preparation
I am happy to work with students who need general academic support as well as students preparing for a specific assignment, exam, project, or standardized test. Whether a student is looking to strengthen foundational skills, improve their grades, become a more confident writer and reader, or prepare for the ACT, I tailor lessons to meet them where they are and help them work toward their goals.

Cassandra is an absolutely exceptional tutor, and I cannot recommend her highly enough! She is thoughtful, patient, encouraging, and genuinely invested in helping her students succeed. She takes the time to understand exactly where you are struggling and tailors her approach to your individual needs.
What I appreciate most is her ability to make difficult concepts feel clear and manageable. She explains things in a way that is easy to understand, creates a very supportive learning environment, and has helped me feel much more confident in my reading skills. I always leave our sessions feeling more capable and encouraged. Anyone looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate, and highly skilled tutor would be incredibly lucky to work with Cassandra!View more recommendations
