About Jacob
I am Jake, a graduate student in Music History at the University at Buffalo. As an academic musician I have studied American Traditional songs, old and new, for my whole college career. I’ve been playing the guitar since I was nine, and have my associates degree in classical and Jazz guitar. Whether you are just beginning or a regular player, American Traditional and Folk tunes offer a wide variety of techniques and a unique approach to learning the guitar.
Students can expect to learn a song a month for the first six months. Then for the second six months we will learn a new song every two months, and revisit the original six introducing new techniques. Accommodations for students of all types can be made in this lesson plan, and it is more of a general guide.
Over the course of your first six months we will learn two popular campfire songs, two blues songs, and two traditional songs. Knowledge of sheet music is not a must for this course, but if you would like to learn to read sheets that can become part of the lesson plan.
By the end of your first year, a new student can expect to play 9 songs, and have the skills available to play a plethora of American Traditional and Folk songs.
