About Chris
Hi there! My name is Chris, and I am a 24 year old PhD candidate in mathematical biology at North Carolina State University . I studied biomedical engineering and mathematics as an undergrad and graduated as the valedictorian of my class! Since graduation in 2020, I have through hiked all 2,200 miles on the Appalachian Trail and worked as a graduate mathematics researcher. All that being said, I also currently train as a professional cyclist. My dream is to one day compete in the Tour de France! Being that I have tutored privately for the past eight years, I have a true passion for quality mentorship. I plan to earn my a PhD and teach as a professor once I retire from sport. As for now, I enjoy juggling tutoring in the subjects I love while riding my bike!

I begin each lesson by engaging with the student on the subject at hand and gauge their confidence level: how the concept makes them feel, what they understand, what they don't understand, etc..
Next I explain core concepts of the subject matter while providing plenty of interesting analogies for better comprehension and allowing time for the student to process and ask questions.
Lastly, we dive into practice problems in order to understand the core concepts from every angle. Repetition is one of the best ways I have witnessed students pick up a concept while learning science and math. I really like to engage with the students, make them feel heard, get to know what interests them, and encourage them to see more in science and math than simply work that must be accomplished to move on in life.
