About Michael
I am currently a graduate student at Montana State University studying mathematics. I went to MSU for undergrad as well, where I received my Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics, earning a 4.0 GPA. As an undergrad at MSU, I tutored in our mathematics tutoring center for 2 years, focusing on multivariable calculus and differential equations. However, I also spent lots of time tutoring Calculus 1 and 2, and served as a mentor for other tutors to train them on these courses. Also at MSU, I was a student teacher for Calc 1 and 2, where I wrote lesson plans, delivered lectures, wrote and graded quizzes and exams, and more. My experience as a teacher gives me a perspective that allows for more effective tutoring. For high school students: I took Calculus BC in high school and scored a 5 on the AP exam, and also scored a 36 on my ACT. My personal successes and teaching experiences make me a great resource to help you excel on standardized exams, specifically in the math topics.

In my teaching and tutoring roles, I like to utilize a student first approach. Since student comprehension is the main goal of my work, I need to ensure that it sits at the center of every session. I like to start tutoring by discovering a student's learning styles, getting a better understanding of the way that a student approaches questions and problem solves. Then I can craft examples and use leading questions which most effectively develop topic comprehension. I like to balance sessions between pre-planned examples and student led questions, with an emphasis placed on students picking topics to cover. I have the ability to tutor any level math course, as I have tutoring and teaching experience from college algebra to differential equations, linear algebra, and everything in between. These lessons would be best for college level students or high school students taking advanced math courses, such as pre-calculus or calculus AB or BC.
