About Juliet
I am a recent graduate in French and Spanish, and have studied both languages for over 10 years. My experience as a literacy mentor, English language assistant at a French primary school*, and conversation class tutor, in addition to time spent studying and working in France and Spain enabled me to obtain advanced-level proficiency in both languages, resulting in a First Class MA (Hons) degree certification in 2022.
I really enjoy and find a huge amount of satisfaction in piquing students' curiosity in language-learning, and supporting their confidence in their ability to successfully and fluently express themselves in their target language, and am eager to develop skills honed through previous mentoring experiences to be able to inspire the linguists of the future.
Completion of TEFL training in 2019 equipped me with essential knowledge of methodologies for teaching both skills-based and functional/grammar lessons which I was able to apply in my most recent role as an English language assistant in a French primary school. Supporting teachers following a curriculum, and often leading classes of 25+ pupils from ages 2 to 11, I really enjoyed making language learning fun and tailored to each group’s stage and competences through conversation role-play, teaching songs, devising games, and sourcing stimulating interactive activities to keep pupils engaged. For the older classes, I would give presentations on timely cultural and significant historical topics, in order to bring the target language’s culture to the fore, and to enrich and contextualise their learning.
This, in addition to having previously volunteered as a literacy mentor and classroom assistant at a primary school, has provided me with lots of experience working with primary age pupils, but providing one-on-one English conversation classes whilst in France to support preparation for 16+ exams allowed me the opportunity to work with secondary age pupils, too.

My approach is centred around creating a customised learning experience for each student. Lessons and teaching methods are adapted to suit and structured around the individual needs and abilities of each student, with every session involving speaking, listening, reading, and writing, based around cultural and historical topics. Homework will be included to consolidate familiarity with the lesson's content for the next session.
I am equipped to teach all levels, from beginners to advanced learners, and all ages, whether they be KS1, KS2, KS3, GCSE or A Level stage pupils, or adults. Lesson durations can vary between 30, 45 minutes, or 1 hour depending on the student’s preferences and requirements.
I take a communicative approach to tutoring, prioritising the development of students’ ability to communicate effectively in the target language. Through interactive conversations, role-plays, and real-life scenarios, I encourage students to actively use the language, building their confidence and fluency.
In addition, I ensure that students develop a solid foundation in grammar rules and vocabulary, utlilising engaging exercises and games to reinforce their understanding and applications of grammatical concepts.
Immersion plays an undeniably crucial role in language acquisition, so I make sure to incorporate authentic and pertinent audio materials, such as podcasts, songs, and videos, to enhance students’ listening skills and expose them to native accents and colloquial expressions.
Finally, in order to improve their reading comprehension and expand their vocabulary, I foster students’ engagement with a variety of written materials, from articles to short stories and literary texts. I also support the development of their writing skills through structured exercises and creative assignments, aimed simultaneously at fostering their ability to apply new vocabulary, expressions, and grammatical concepts.
