About Pavel
Currently final year PhD Candidate in Film and Screen Studies at Cambridge, I have always enjoyed sharing knowledge and teaching. I believe that creating an open, trusting, and relaxed learning environment is essential for effective teaching. While a solid understanding of theory and facts forms the foundation of any subject, I prioritise sparking the student’s curiosity and excitement. Genuine interest transforms learning from a task into an exploration, making the material more engaging and meaningful. My approach focuses on connecting new concepts—whether in language, art history, or film studies—with the student’s existing knowledge and interests. By finding relatable examples or drawing parallels to familiar experiences, I aim to make complex ideas accessible and intuitive. Encouraging active dialogue and critical thinking further empowers students to take ownership of their learning journey.

Tailored to the interests and needs of each student, my 60-minute lessons—whether in language, Art History, or the History of Cinema—focus on addressing the challenges they encounter with their homework and cover the key aspects of new material, leaving time for practice and questions. I have taught English and Russian for over 10 years and recently have been supervising students in Art history and Film Studies for adults, 6-formers and undergraduate students and am open to students of any level.
