About Kate
I am a 23-year-old Master's student currently living in south London. I am obviously a huge fan of reading and literature, and I also really enjoy the theatre. Outside my studies, I love to cook, go to gigs (rock music is my favourite) and watch TV. I am also a huge nerd and love all things fantasy. When teaching, I love to have engaging discussions with my students, and I am always intrigued by how many unique perspectives people can have when discussing texts. I love to play games and incorporate that into my lesson; having fun is important to me. I'd love to hear about your interests too and get to you know you!

Hello,
My name is Kate Fairgrieve, I am 23 years old, and I am currently studying for a Masters at King's College in London. I graduated with a BA in English literature from Goldsmiths university in 2021. During my undergraduate degree, I worked as a tutor with GCSE students at a variety of schools across South London, helping disadvantaged children with their English Language and English Literature. I work with students of KS3, KS4 and KS5 ages for all levels of confidence with their English Language and English Literature subjects.
I take a very personable approach to my lessons; I understand that every student has different needs, and therefore I try to cater my teaching around those individual's needs. I consider communication the key factor when one is teaching, so I prefer to do student lead learning with a blend of multi-media tools and exercises to help with a student's understanding. I also understand that exams can be very stressful for young people, so it is my goal to help them find academic confidence in themselves to get through their school life.
My typical lesson structure would be roughly an hour or two hours with a ten-minute break in the middle. The first session would be getting to know the student and their preferred learning style, their current grade, confidence in the subject and what areas need improvement. I would also like to use this time to get to know the student and their temperament, interests and goals for their academic future. If their parent or guardian would also like to be present for this session, I am more than happy with that arrangement, as a child's academic future is no small thing.
I can work over Microsoft teams or Zoom, and I have a flexible schedule.
