About LU
Hello everyone! My name is Lu. I am currently pursuing my degree in Chinese Studies at the University of Sydney, and I previously worked as an English teacher at a well-known university in China. I am deeply passionate about sharing the beauty of the Chinese language and culture with students from diverse backgrounds. My teaching experience in China allowed me to work with learners at different levels, and it strengthened my belief that language education should be engaging, interactive, and culturally rich. I want to teach because I enjoy building meaningful connections through education and helping students gain not just language skills, but also a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture. My pedagogy for teaching Chinese writing is Thematic Scaffolded Immersion. I move beyond generic exercises, treating writing as a craft to be honed through cultural depth and structured creativity. The process begins with "Micro-Skill Isolation." Instead of tackling entire essays immediately, we focus on perfecting core components in isolation—crafting powerful thesis statements, developing vivid descriptive paragraphs around a single object, or mastering different transitional phrases. This builds unwavering confidence. Next, I employ "Thematic Depth Mining." Each writing unit orbits a rich cultural concept (e.g., "家/Home," "矛盾/Contradiction," "乡愁/Nostalgia"). We immerse ourselves in short, high-quality texts—classical poetry, modern blog posts, song lyrics—that explore this theme. This provides authentic linguistic input and intellectual stimulus, ensuring students have meaningful content to write about, moving from mere translation to original expression. Finally, "Iterative Peer-Guided Revision" is crucial. Using customized digital platforms, students engage in anonymous peer review focused on specific, pre-taught criteria. This transforms editing from a passive correction into an active learning process, fostering a critical eye for their own work and creating a collaborative workshop environment where everyone grows together.
