About Karina
Moving from a mediocre public school to one of the nation's most prestigious and rigorous universities to study biology was a huge challenge for me. I realized that if I wanted to succeed, I needed to drastically change the way I was learning. I stopped memorizing content, and instead forced myself to dig into fundamental principles that weren't covered in class, and to rationalize everything the professor discussed. Before I knew it, I was getting all As, and I began TAing to help other students do the same. If you want to improve the way you learn, I am available to tutor college/high school biology, high school physics, and standardized testing (35 ACT scorer here). Lessons for middle school - college biology students.
I break topics down to their most fundamental principles, using my rigorous background in cellular and molecular biology.
In a typical lesson, I will begin with a broad overview of the topic, such as explaining basic definitions and applicable fundamental principles, and then explain how each of these biological components interact, with meticulous attention to detail.
I end lessons by constructing a visual diagram with the student to ensure that they have learned the topic to the point that they can logically reconstruct it.
