Even though I majored in law as an undergraduate, I spent much of my time reading traditional or classical Chinese, including history, poems, philosophy, and essays, which gave me a better understanding and grasp of Chinese culture than a large portion of Chinese-majored students.

I believe it is through both syntax and semantics that people can learn a language well.
