About Sam
I moved to Los Angeles from Maryland in 2015 and was soon hired by the legendary recording studio Record Plant where I worked my way up from runner to audio engineer. Over the course of a few years I had cuts with Kendrick Lamar, SZA, and Ariana Grande, and made the transition from engineering to producing.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my years of practical working experience that includes a Grammy nomination for "Record of the Year" for my involvement in Kendrick Lamar & SZA's "All The Stars" from the Black Panther soundtrack. Songs I've been a part of have garnered almost 2 billion streams on Spotify alone. In addition, there are few music producers with the diverse set of skills I possess; many producers lean either creative or technical, while I am advanced in both areas.

Music producers today are expected to have many individual skills and perform a multitude of tasks. My lessons can be for beginning to advanced students, and are formulated to be practical, engaging, and tailored to the style of music you wish to produce. The essential skills I like to focus on are:
- working in one or more DAW's (Ableton, Logic, Pro Tools)
- playing one or more instruments and having a basic understanding of music theory (I myself play guitar, piano, bass, and a little drums)
- recording and editing vocals and live instruments
- programming drums and synthesizers; working with MIDI-based instruments
- sampling other songs and methods for incorporating AI technology into your productions
- mixing tracks of various genres
- studio session etiquette and working with artists, songwriters, and co-producers
- tips for working with record labels, music managers, A&R's, and music lawyers

Details
I invite students to learn in my well-equipped home studio in the Larchmont neighborhood of Los Angeles. During lessons, students will have access to learn hands-on using all of my gear, which includes:
- MacBook Pro (M2 chip) with Ableton Live, Logic Pro X, and Pro Tools, equipped with hundreds of plugins from developers such as Waves, Universal Audio, iZotope, SoundToys, Valhalla, among others.
