About Kristhyan
I'm Kristhyan Benítez, a Venezuelan-born concert pianist, composer, arranger, conductor, and producer with a career spanning nearly four decades. I'm a Latin Grammy Award winner for Best Classical Album (2021, for "Latin American Classics"), a second-time Latin Grammy nominee for "Afro-Cuban Dances" (2023), and an exclusive Steinway & Sons artist.
I began my musical studies at age four and, after just three months of training, performed for an audience of 2,000 people at the Teresa Carreño Cultural Complex in Caracas. Since then, my career has taken me to concert halls across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, including the Philharmonie Berlin, Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, Alice Tully Hall in New York, the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, and the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. I've had the privilege of collaborating with major conductors including Claudio Abbado and Gustavo Dudamel, as well as Oscar-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla.
Beyond performing, I'm deeply committed to teaching and promoting Latin American music, and I actively participate in educational programs aimed at expanding the classical repertoire and inspiring new generations of musicians. José Antonio Abreu, founder of El Sistema, once described me as one of the most important and brilliant leaders of the musical movement in Venezuela and across the continent — a description I try to live up to every time I teach.
I've spent much of my life moving across Latin America, Europe, and the United States — a life shaped by many cultures, many languages, and the belief that music belongs to everyone, everywhere. Alongside my classical career, I also create contemporary and electronic music under my alter ego BENITEZ, which keeps me constantly exploring new ways to connect with audiences and students of every background.
Whether you're a complete beginner or an advancing player, I bring both deep technical expertise and genuine creative range into every lesson — and I'd love to help you discover what you're capable of at the piano.

I believe everyone is capable of playing an instrument — truly, everyone. What it takes isn't some rare natural gift; it's love, passion, discipline, and conviction. My job is to help you find and grow those qualities in yourself, at the piano or keyboard, at your own pace.
There is no single way to learn. I don't teach from a rigid, outdated method and expect every student to fit into it — I adapt to you. Your goals, your learning style, your musical taste, the way your brain processes rhythm and sound — all of that shapes how I teach you specifically. What works for one student may not work for another, and that's exactly the point: lessons should be built around the person, not the other way around.
I also believe strongly in innovation over repetition for its own sake. Yes, technique and fundamentals matter — reading, ear training, rhythm, solfège — but they should never feel like drudgery. My goal in every lesson is to help you fall in love with what you're doing, so that practicing doesn't feel like an obligation but something you look forward to. When that happens, students don't just learn an instrument — they develop a real, personal connection with it, and start discovering a talent they may not have known they had.
With nearly four decades of experience as a performer, composer, and educator — spanning classical music as a Grammy-winning, Steinway Artist pianist, and contemporary/pop music as my alter ego BENITEZ — I bring both technical depth and genuine creative range to every lesson.
Whether you're a complete beginner or already play and want to grow, I'll meet you exactly where you are.
Lessons are held online, in English or Spanish, and are shaped around your goals — whether that's classical repertoire, pop and contemporary styles, exam or audition prep, or simply learning to play for the joy of it. Everyone is capable of great things. Let's find yours at the piano.
