About Emery
I completed a PhD in Contemporary Guitar Performance and Music Theory after years of studying instrumental technique, live performance, composition, and advanced musical structure during my academic training. During the past 7 years, I have worked with students from many different musical backgrounds and experience levels, helping them improve through personalized guidance and supportive instruction. Teaching guitar allows me to combine creativity, mentorship, and musical communication in a meaningful way. I enjoy helping learners become more confident musicians through artistic expression.
My teaching style focuses on adaptability, patience, and balanced musical growth. Some students improve best through repetition and technical exercises, while others respond more naturally to improvisation and creative exploration. I carefully adapt lessons according to each learner’s confidence level, learning style, and artistic goals. Along with technical improvement, I help students strengthen rhythm awareness, listening ability, expressive confidence, and stage readiness. Building a positive and motivating learning environment remains one of my highest priorities as a teacher.
Outside teaching, I continue practicing guitar, exploring different musical traditions, and studying educational methods that help keep my lessons fresh and engaging. Music remains a powerful source of creativity and inspiration in my life. One of the most rewarding parts of teaching is seeing students become more expressive and self-assured through their musical growth.

My guitar lessons are designed to help students build strong musical foundations while enjoying the creative process of learning and performing music. I teach chord transitions, rhythm accuracy, finger coordination, strumming control, improvisation, tone shaping, and expressive phrasing using supportive explanations and practical exercises. Lessons also include ear training, solo practice, timing drills, fingerstyle activities, and musical interpretation work that help students improve steadily over time. I create a relaxed environment where learners feel comfortable experimenting creatively while developing technical confidence. Every lesson balances structure, creativity, and steady progress together.
Beginners learn tuning, posture, rhythm counting, and simple chord progressions through patient guidance and organized practice activities that create healthy foundational habits. Intermediate learners strengthen improvisation skills, fingerstyle coordination, expressive playing, and smoother transitions through guided studies and structured exercises. Advanced students focus on solo interpretation, advanced rhythm work, stage confidence, and performance preparation through detailed musical coaching sessions. I carefully adapt lessons according to each learner’s pace, personality, and musical interests so progress remains balanced and motivating throughout the learning journey.
Learning guitar should feel exciting, expressive, and rewarding. I encourage students to enjoy gradual improvement while building confidence through regular practice and supportive feedback. Many learners become more creative and independent as their musical abilities continue growing naturally over time. My goal is to help students strengthen both technical ability and artistic individuality while building a meaningful connection with music.
