About Mara
Hi! I’m a guitar educator with 7 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Guitar Emphasis. I am passionate about arranging and composing music, and I love helping students explore their creativity while mastering the instrument. My teaching style is structured yet engaging, combining clear guidance with opportunities for experimentation.
I focus on developing a strong understanding of scales, modes, rhythm, and music theory, while also emphasizing practical skills in songwriting and performance readiness. I enjoy guiding Intermediate to Advanced learners as well as students who are career-focused and want to take their playing to a professional level. My lessons are designed to strengthen technique, musicality, and confidence simultaneously.
I encourage students to set goals, explore different styles, and apply what they learn in real musical settings. Whether you want to perform on stage, compose original music, or deepen your understanding of the guitar, I provide the tools and support to help you succeed. I aim to make every lesson inspiring, rewarding, and fun.

My teaching approach focuses on helping students build strong foundations while exploring their personal style. I emphasize ergonomic technique to ensure comfortable and efficient playing for long practice sessions. Students learn open chords, power chords, and finger dexterity exercises to improve speed, accuracy, and fluidity across all styles. I integrate ear training early so learners can recognize chords, melodies, and harmonies naturally. Music theory, including Roman Numeral Chord Nomenclature, is introduced practically to help students understand song structures and chord progressions.
I guide students in developing fingerstyle techniques for expressive solo and accompaniment playing. For those drawn to worship or performance settings, I offer tailored support to excel in ensemble or band environments. Lessons combine structured exercises with creative experimentation to keep practice enjoyable and meaningful. I encourage students to set achievable goals and track progress consistently.
Improvisation and composition are introduced gradually, allowing learners to express themselves confidently on the instrument. I also focus on developing sight-reading and rhythm skills to strengthen overall musicianship. My method adapts to each student’s pace, ensuring no one feels rushed or left behind. By blending technique, theory, and creativity, I aim to make every student a confident and versatile guitarist.
