About Shawn
I am a professional writer with extensive teaching experience who has worked for the last decade in eLearning and instructional design. I love helping students learn to harness the power of the written word!
I studied English at Harvard University (B.A.) as well as U.C. Berkeley (M.A.), where I led discussion sections for undergraduate students in American literature. I also received an M.F.A. and the Michener-Copernicus fellowship from the Iowa Writers' Workshop, where I led several student workshops, both in person and online. In addition, I have also worked as a personal tutor, writing advisor, and editor for private clients.

Facility with reading and writing is critical for ensuring that one can understand what and how others are trying to communicate, and can successfully make themselves heard and understood by others.
As an educator, I encourage my students to engage closely with texts, using their own points of interest or frustration as a starting point for exploring the different layers of meaning and technique an author employs.
Moreover, I try to empower my students to approach the various texts and narratives they’ll encounter in their daily lives with the same critical eye, frequently providing them with supplemental materials to help draw the connection between the coursework and the more familiar, but just as significant, kinds of texts they’ll encounter – like news articles, advertisements, and online content. glish and writing, I believe
