About Jonathan
I have a passion for math because I enjoy solving problems which have a solution. Oftentimes in life, a problem does not have a "correct answer," but in math, they usually do. I find comfort in that and want to build confidence in others so that they don't feel stressed, afraid, or confused when walking into a math class. Math is about logical processes, and I believe the critical reasoning skills developed through mathematics can often help us process difficult challenges in our day-to-day lives. I also believe that one-on-one teaching/tutoring is far more effective than the one-on-twenty model of traditional classrooms.

When it comes to math, confidence is key. Building confidence in the field of math means having a deep understanding of the principles at work and why problems are solved the way they are solved. It starts with detailed explanations of process, including reinforcing why each step in a process is important. From there, it moves into a guided practice, where I go through the problems side-by-side with a student. Once the student gets the hang of a problem, we move on to letting them do practice with supervision, then work on problems independently. Lastly, we work on self-checking and spotting errors to correct. I will teach any level up to calculus, statistics, or linear algebra.
