About Melissa
I am a passionate, young, expository and narrative writer specializing in verbal, written, and behavioural communication. Formal and creative writing is a natural talent and was further shaped by my education at the University of Toronto where I earned my Honours Bachelor of Arts in an English Specialist. My writing was further sharpened through my professional work experience. I was the Head of English Teacher’s Assistant at Abbey Park High School and a tutor inside and outside of school premises for over 5 years and this has been extremely rewarding. I am able to really help a student understand what he/she is learning and teach in a way that is comprehensive and truly enjoyable. Teaching, writing, and the English language has my heart and this is easily identifiable and what students recognize which inspires them to excel in their studies.

What really makes me different and a great tutor-mentor is my capacity to listen and truly hear what the student needs. Sometimes these needs are expressed vocally and sometimes in silence. I can easily speak on subjects in a compartmentalized, organized, and refined way. What makes me unique is that I am able to really present a subject to someone with a beginner's mindset.
I can quickly understand students' communication styles and can adapt the way I interact with them so they can understand my tutoring better. Adapting to a student's style of learning and communication makes for an equal partnership which in turn, makes the student feel valued. When students feel valued for their thoughts, ideas, or suggestions, they build a trust, loyalty, and respect in you - this is when you really become a great mentor and teaching becomes inspirational and educational.
The most important aspect of being a tutor in a student's life is being a caring, encouraging educator while also being an expansive well of wisdom.
It is important to me to be able to give special attention to a student who needs this to further his/her knowledge and understanding of a topic. It is equally important to me to be able to stretch the student's mind and help break mental barriers. I definitely do not want a student to leave a tutoring session feeling that the education he/she is receiving is limited to the scope of the class or subject. I want students to know how and why what they are learning is important and how it applies to other aspects of life. The greater the horizons are, the more fun it is to seek knowledge and show a willingness to engage with it.
In short, my methodology is adaptable, patient, expansive, and engaging.

I can offer tutoring to cities outside of Oakville, Burlington, and Milton and the rate will stay the same but the tutoring session will have to be a minimum of 2 hours instead of 1.
