As someone who is just starting out, I believe that the key to success lies in building strong foundations, using practical lessons, and motivating students to engage with the language.
My first focus will be understanding the students’ current level and their specific struggles—whether it’s writing essays, answering comprehension questions, or speaking confidently. I plan to begin my lessons with introductions and diagnostic activities to assess their strengths and weaknesses. From there, I can design lessons that target the SPM exam format, such as summary writing, directed writing, and reading comprehension.
I also believe in making lessons interactive and relatable. For example, when teaching essay writing, I will provide model essays, teach useful vocabulary, and break down the marking scheme so students understand what is expected of them. For grammar, I will focus on areas that commonly appear in Paper 1, such as subject-verb agreement, tenses, and sentence structure.
Besides exam techniques, I want to help students improve their confidence in speaking and listening, which are essential for real-life use of English. I plan to include group discussions, presentations, and role-play activities so that students can practise speaking in a supportive environment.
