About Shaylah Grace

My experience working with children has taken place largely outside of traditional classroom settings, where I have helped young people explore their interests, think creatively, and develop confidence in themselves. These experiences have taught me the importance of patience, adaptability, and building genuine connections with students.

I earned a Bachelor's degree in Literature from UC Santa Cruz and am currently furthering my education in Journalism. My background has provided me with a strong foundation in reading, writing, research, and communication—skills that are essential for academic success across many subjects.

As a tutor, I strive to create a positive and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and challenging themselves. I understand that trust and encouragement are just as important as academic instruction, and I work hard to help each student feel capable of reaching their goals.

About the lesson

My teaching style is flexible and tailored to each student's individual needs. I combine traditional instruction, hands-on activities, and conversation to keep lessons engaging and help students learn in a way that works best for them. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, I focus on giving students the building blocks they need to understand challenging concepts and build confidence in their abilities.

A typical lesson starts with a review of what the student is currently working on, along with a discussion of their goals and any areas where they may be struggling. From there, we work together to strengthen skills and develop strategies that support their learning.

I have experience working with students from elementary through high school and enjoy building positive relationships with the kids I teach. As someone who benefited from individualized instruction myself, I understand that every student learns differently. My goal is to create a supportive, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, staying engaged, and developing a genuine love of learning.
