About Michelle
Hello! I’m Michelle — a passionate and empathetic tutor who loves working with children and sharing the beauty of math. I graduated top of my class in mathematics while majoring in Computer Science, and I’m a national awardee in the China University Mathematics Competition. I’ve also worked in the tech industry and continue to enjoy learning new technologies and ideas. I genuinely enjoy spending time with kids and love seeing them grow not only in skills, but also in confidence. I care deeply about how my students feel while learning — whether they are discovering their strengths, overcoming challenges, or simply enjoying the beauty of math. As a tutor, I combine deep mathematical understanding with a highly personalized and empathetic teaching approach. I believe that every student learns differently, so I always begin by understanding their current level, mindset, and emotional relationship with the subject.
My methods include:
Diagnostic questioning to identify the exact point where a student is stuck
Step-by-step logical breakdowns using real-life analogies
Visual explanations (diagrams, drawings, number lines)
Confidence-building strategies to reduce math anxiety
I often design lessons based on a carefully selected set of diagnostic problems:
By observing how a student approaches these problems, I can quickly detect their thinking patterns, strengths, and blind spots.
I have a strong intuition for where a student’s logic breaks down — whether it's a misunderstanding of the core concept, a missing step in reasoning, or a misused strategy.
Once I identify the exact issue, I guide them to rebuild that part of their thinking in a clear and structured way.
This often results in a “lightbulb moment,” where students not only solve that problem but unlock a whole class of similar problems.
It’s not just about getting the right answer — it’s about changing how they think.
