About Hakon
I am a PhD student in Philosophy and Law. I have an undergraduate degree in Philosophy (First Class) and a master's degree in Law (Distinction). I have already published in peer-reviewed journals and presented my research at conferences and think tanks. I love teaching. I love being able to pass on my own tricks of the trade to the next generation of philosophers (or lawyers). I am especially passionate about writing, and getting other students confident about their own writing. I have experience teaching in primary and secondary schools in the UK and abroad. I am now looking to help undergraduate students cultivate their own aptitude for self-directed learning that will definitely serve them beyond their degree in academia or other lines of work.

My style of teaching aims to demystify academic philosophy. I aim to both present key philosophical ideas and arguments in easy to understand and digestible forms, but also, more importantly, teach students how to read and critique philosophical texts on their own. Writing philosophy papers is a skill that many students never had to practise before entering university. I teach students how to write well by first identifying and developing gaps in knowledge, skills and understanding. I provide model examples of essays to work through, then set small writing tasks designed to target and improve weakest areas of writing.
