About Shivangi
During my high school, I have volunteered and offered to help at school and community at various occasions.
We got new Anatomy text books this year, but few labels were missing on the human skeleton diagrams. I offered to help annotate about a hundred books over a period of three days. I hope this effort will help the current batch in their learning experience and also the students that will use these books in the future.
In my junior year, one of my friends joined our school in the middle of the semester and was hospitalized two days later. She was months behind work, and was having a difficult time catching up. Everyday, I spent a couple hours helping her with the school work, teaching her on the lessons she missed, and preparing for the upcoming tests. By the end of the semester she was well prepared for finals and it also helped me firm up my understanding of the subjects.
On other occasions, I gave presentations to the entire class on various topics ranging from a refresher on using calculators for calculus to teaching statistical formulae to Earth and Space science class to infer effects of gravity on building structures.
I am also part of Science Honor Society (SHS) and National Honor Society (NHS) where I have been actively participating in food drives, organizing elementary school picnics and carnival events and spreading awareness about STEM topics. On Fridays, I spend an hour as part of the PB (Peanut Butter) and JOY program making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless.
The above experiences were very enriching and have helped shape me as someone who is open to sharing her knowledge, caring and compassionate person. I intend to continue contributing, as much as I can in any way possible.

my approach as a tutor is to ensure the grasping of concepts by the child. if he/she is struggling, we will spend indefinite amounts of time and practice on this concept so that everyone can excel. I always come prepared to classes with research and lesson plans with worksheets and different examples or techniques to help master certain skills. I find Mnemonics or easy memorization songs are very effective!
