About Rosa

My name is Rosa Garcia and I was born and raised in Barcelona, Spain. From the moment I started learning English, I fell in love in learning other languages ( I am bilingual in Catalan and Spanish, and studied German for many years) and eventually I became a teacher.
I have been a Spanish teacher for the past 25 years in the Massachusetts Public Schools. I have taught from elementary students to high school students. At the high school level, I have taught from level 1 to AP Spanish.
I also have experience in teaching Spanish to adults who want to learn the language because they need it for a traveling, work, or just for fun.
I love learning and teaching a world language. I hold a Masters Degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Massachusetts in Boston.
I am looking forward to share this fascinating journey with you.

As a tutor, my approach is centered around fostering a dynamic and engaging learning environment tailored to the individual needs of each student. Here's an overview of my teaching method, typical lesson plan, what sets me apart, and the target audience for my lessons:

Teaching Method and Techniques:

Personalized Learning: I believe in understanding each student's unique learning style, strengths, and areas of improvement. This allows me to customize my teaching approach accordingly, whether it's through visual aids, hands-on activities, or interactive discussions.

Conceptual Understanding: Rather than focusing solely on rote memorization, I emphasize building a solid foundation of conceptual understanding. This involves breaking down complex topics into manageable components and reinforcing key principles through real-world examples and practical applications.

Active Engagement: I encourage active participation and engagement throughout the learning process. This includes asking open-ended questions, facilitating group discussions, and incorporating interactive activities to encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Feedback and Assessment: Regular feedback and assessment are integral parts of my teaching method. I provide constructive feedback to help students identify areas for improvement and track their progress over time. This feedback loop enables continuous learning and growth.

Typical Lesson Plan:
Introduction and Goal Setting: Begin each lesson by establishing clear learning objectives and discussing the topics to be covered.
Concept Exploration: Present the core concepts using a variety of teaching aids and examples to enhance understanding.
Interactive Activities: Incorporate interactive activities, such as discussions, case studies, or problem-solving exercises, to reinforce learning and encourage active engagement.
Practice and Application: Provide opportunities for students to apply their knowledge through hands-on practice exercises or real-world scenarios.
Feedback and Reflection: Offer constructive feedback on performance, address any misconceptions or difficulties, and encourage reflection on the learning process.
Summary and Next Steps: Summarize key takeaways from the lesson, clarify any remaining questions, and outline next steps for continued learning.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
Adaptability: I adapt my teaching approach to suit the individual needs and learning styles of each student, ensuring that they receive personalized support and guidance.
Engagement: I strive to create a stimulating and interactive learning environment that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a passion for learning.
Practical Relevance: I emphasize the practical relevance of the material, connecting theoretical concepts to real-world applications to enhance understanding and retention.
Feedback-Oriented: I place a strong emphasis on providing timely and constructive feedback to support students' learning and development.
My lessons are designed for students at various levels of education, including middle, high school, undergraduate, graduate or for someone who just wants to learn the language for personal or professional reasons.
Whether preparing for standardized tests, tackling challenging coursework, or seeking to deepen their understanding of specific subjects, my tutoring services cater to a diverse range of learners.
