About Mya

Hi! I’m Mya, a 17-year-old high school student. I really enjoy English and reading, and I’ve always liked helping other people understand things when they’re stuck.

I’m also a board-certified lifeguard, so I’m used to being responsible and working with people of different ages. I’m interested in psychology and hope to become a psychologist in the future, which is one of the reasons I enjoy working with and getting to know different people.

I’m offering tutoring for elementary and middle school students in Math and English. I want my lessons to be comfortable and easy to understand, and I’m happy to take extra time with anything a student finds difficult.

I like to keep my lessons relaxed and focused on what the student actually needs help with. Since I’m a high school student too, I know that sometimes a topic can be confusing just because it wasn’t explained in a way that makes sense to you. I try to explain things in a way that feels easy to follow instead of making them more complicated.

For Math, I usually go through the question step by step and then let the student try similar questions on their own. If they get stuck, we go back and figure out exactly where the problem is. For English, I can help with things such as reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and school assignments.

A normal lesson would start with going over what the student is currently learning in class. Then we would work through a few examples together, followed by some practice questions. I also like to leave time for any questions or topics the student wants to go over before we finish.

One thing that makes my lessons different is that I’m close in age to the students I teach, so I can understand what school is actually like for them. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, even if they think the question is obvious.

My lessons are mainly for elementary and middle school students who want extra help with Math or English, whether they need help understanding something from class, preparing for a test, finishing homework, or getting more comfortable with the subject.
