About Louise
I’ve been an English teacher, tutor and examiner for over 28 years - but I'm still young at heart! I’ve successfully tutored so many young people through exams and love the privilege of working with individual students to help really make a difference to those grades. I've tutored students from a wide range of private and state schools including RGS, Churcher's, Bohunt, St Edmund's, Godalming College, Prior's Field and Reed's, which means I have expertise across all the exam boards from AQA Language and Literature to the iGCSE English from Pearson and Cambridge. I am also an experience examiner - marking AQA GCSE Literature and Cambridge iGCSE Language, which means I can offer first hand tips and tricks from an examiner's perspective. Many students I have taught have gone on to obtain places at Russell Group Universities including Oxford and Cambridge. I have also successfully tutored many students for the 11+, 13+ and Eton List, the latter aiming for the very top private schools in the UK. From 11 & 13+ to GCSEs and iGCSEs, retakes, A Levels and at degree level, I can offer reliable, tried and tested study skills and content to support every learner to achieve to their full potential. I am also very experienced at tutoring students with a range of SEND needs; from ASD, ADHD, PDA and dyslexia. Each student brings their own strengths and areas of focus; we learn together how best to navigate the world of exams, making sure they feel confident, safe and positive about their learning experience.
I was also fortunate enough to have been a Head of English, and Deputy Head (leading on Teaching and Learning). . After full and part-time teaching in mainstream education and many years as an examiner, I have built up the thriving tutoring business I now run, operating almost exclusively online. Having spent many years training colleagues at school, county and sometimes national level on ways to raise attainment and engagement in the classroom, I am able to bring all this experience and expertise to my tutoring practice as well. So please don't hesitate to contact me if you think I can help!

My lessons reflect my belief that learning must be as engaging and interactive as possible to get the best results; so I can adapt my lessons to suit the way you learn best. I'm really experienced as a classroom teacher and a tutor too, (which is code for being a bit old!!) so can offer you all the latest top tips straight from the exam board through my constant top-up training. I also have a wealth of experience preparing students aiming for top private schools, using a wide range of online tools I've designed myself to mirror as much as possible the pre-test experience. From past papers to grammar to fast writing, I strive to make everything we both sharply focused on success, as well as being fun and interactive. The two are not mutually exclusive!
I enjoy so many different types of literature and writing - and my expertise as an examiner means I can share my love of language and literature with you, whilst also showing you the essentials of exam technique so you can get the highest grades possible. My lessons often feature quizzes, film and documentary clips, online resources, reading recommendations - plus as much practice at each specific type of exam question you need. I know from experience that the more you are enjoying the texts and literature we work on together, the higher your exam score can be, because you're able to develop an opinion about it all - which is what any examiner is looking for.
I have experience too at working at whatever level you might be looking for. I worked for a long time at the beginning of my career as a gifted and talented coordinator, also raising the attainment of underachievers, and have the skills to get you to the GCSE Level 8s & 9s/A Level A*s if that's your goal. But equally, I'm very experienced at enabling you to get to the Level 4 you need in order to go on and study at college.
My degree was originally in Philosophy and Literature, and I have a Masters in Modern Fiction - which means if you're an A Level Literature student, I can offer a great range of reading depth and challenge - as well as lots of experience of getting students the grades they want for University. Lots of essay technique is often the key here, as it's not always clearly taught at college - and teaching this is a key strength for me. So whatever your level, I look forward to hearing from you! Once we're in touch, I can also happily share references with you so that you can see what others have to say about my tutoring and work out if you think I'm the right fit for you!

Perfect! Oh my goodness, Louise has been amazing! My son has ADHD and is dyslexic, and 5 months away from his GCSEs he hated studying English, didn’t understand what the exams entailed, his grades were appalling and he had all but given up hope. Louise’s input was transformative. From the first lesson he enjoyed his sessions with Louise. Her teaching style encouraged his creativity whilst minimising his dyslexia difficulties and he really enjoyed the discussions they had on a wide range of topics, he even said that he might have considered A level English if she had been teaching him. We were so lucky to find Louise and I’m eternally grateful we did! Thank you Louise!
- Thank you so much Dorita - it has been a privilege to share a small part of Finlay’s learning journey & I’m very grateful for your kind words. He is such a creative, thoughtful and inspiring young person - tutoring with him was so much fun and I miss seeing him! Have a great summerLouise's response :

Louise has been my tutor from year 10 to year 13 (GCSE AQA spec, A Level AQA spec), she has been such a big part of my academic journey and for good reason.
Not only is she a great tutor, she is a lovely person. She not only helped me improve academically, she also helped with confidence which aided me in other subjects. She’s been amazing, I will truly miss my sessions with her.
Thank you Louise ️Louise is superb. Two A’Level English daughters now hoping for high grades to secure offers to Russell group universities with one down for English. Before Louise this would not have seemed possible.
Louise is engaging and experienced and almost overnight gave them the confidence and knowledge to take on English as an A’Level after helping them secure high grades in English GCSE (both increased 2 grades within months). Can’t recommend enough. 15yo son booked in…Louise has been working with my daughter who has dyslexia to prepare for Gcse English and has been amazing . She is a very experienced English teacher and prepares each lesson in detail.
More importantly she has inspired my daughter to really enjoy English and has equipped her with essential skills for approaching the exams .Louise was recommended to me by a friend as ‘an absolutely brilliant English tutor’ and that is EXACTLY what she is. We brought Louise on board because my son was finding his English Language A Level difficult and his confidence had been knocked by consistently low marks in class and end of topic tests. Since employing Louise, his grades have been consistently higher and Louise’s passion for the subject has most definitely rubbed off a little into him, making his A’level much more enjoyable. Louise really cares about her students. She always went above and beyond for my son, contacting his college teachers, introducing herself and ensuring that everyone was ‘reading from the same page’, as it were. I think she really gave him the confidence to believe that he could do well in the subject - support that he just wasn’t getting at college. I would thoroughly recommend Louise to anyone who is looking for extra English tuition for their child. She knows the subject, she has immense passion for it, and has the knack of communicating all this to her students and holding their attention. I’m so glad that Louise was recommended to us.
