About Alana
I am a teacher at heart. It's what I've always wanted to do since I was a little girl. I love teaching French because I loved learning French in secondary school (thanks to Mrs Henry!), and it changed the trajectory of my life. The best part of teaching for me is being able to take a difficult concept and seeing my students finally 'get it'. A lot of people don't see the need to learn a foreign language, or say it's impossible, but I'm here to show you that neither are true :)

I make every lesson effective by teaching new concepts in imaginative ways and using lots of repetition until it sticks. I have unapologetically high standards of my students, but I also work hard at building a good relationship and injecting plenty of fun into each lesson too. Every lesson has a healthy mix of listening, speaking, reading and writing, but we can customise this based on your needs. My lessons last 60 minutes usually, but I can be flexible.
I have an Honours degree in French from Queen's University Belfast and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Secondary French) from the University of Birmingham. I taught for 5 years at a high-achieving secondary school in south east England and have been delivering private French lessons since 2018. Every student I have tutored has received a top-class grade in GCSE French (grade 9s- English equivalent to A**). I have experience marking Edexcel GCSE French exams and have a thorough understanding of what examiners are looking for.
I have recently moved into a role in Higher Education, now working in Educational Development in QUB where I train academic staff.
