About Enya
Music is the Art of thinking with sounds- this is what fascinates me the most about music performance and the ability to support students with their musical journey and development.
I am a classically trained Soprano with a First-Class Music degree (2017) from Royal Holloway, University of London. During my academic studies my main focus was Classical Operatic Performance, Contemporary Classical Composition, and understanding the relationship between Music and Ecology, which was the focus of my dissertation. My musical journey started at the age of eight when I enrolled at the National Conservatory of Music in Portugal. In 2014 I completed my 8th grade in Vocal Performance, Music Theory, Composition, Music History, 7th grade in Violin, and 5th grade in Piano.
During my academic journey I had the grateful opportunity of winning two performance competitions in 2014 for performing original work, and in 2017 I was awarded Best Performance for Chamber Music Competition Royal Holloway by performing vocal work by Rachmaninov and Schoenberg. I also hold Passport Award for contributing to the local community and life on campus as a 3 years volunteer in Surrey (performing in elderly local Care Homes). Most of my performance has been focused on working with Symphonic and Chamber choirs in the United Kingdom, Portugal, and Italy (Rome), and as a soloist in Opera Productions and Private Recitals.
In 2014 after signing a contract with Downtown Artist as a Musician and Co-Producer to publish some original work, I then started my journey in composing and writing original songs. I am currently working on my EP 'Passing Through' which will be released next July. Alongside my musical life, for the past two years I have been a Special Needs Intervention Assistant in an Inclusive school, which led me to be interested on another side of communication and expression. As a result, in September 2019 I will start my Masters in Speech and Language Therapy at City University of London, which will expand my ability to support patients but also vocal students with their musical journey and ability to produce a variety of sounds.
As a Music tutor, I support students with their ABRSM exams up to the 8th grade (Voice and Music Theory- 8th grade, Violin- 7th grade, Piano- 5th Grade), and I can also support undergraduate students with academic studies such as Ethnomusicology, Composition, Vocal Performance, and Dissertation writing.
As a passionate Music Tutor, I guide students regards the balance between technique and expression, and what technique supports the improvement to perform different styles (Baroque, Classical, Contemporary, Popular Music, and Jazz). My approach to teaching different aspects of Music is always focused on understanding the individual musical interests and uniqueness of each student I support as we all have our own musical voice and identity even if we have not found it yet or is not fully developed.
