About Jess
I am a historian with a Master's in Public History and a former Peer Tutor at my University. I love helping people who "hate" history come to respect and even like it(even just a little). I have tutored history and other lib arts courses for three years, but have always enjoyed helping friends, colleagues, and family with their history essays and projects. I hosted four workshops weekly that go over the major concepts and assignments, which are a lot of fun. The number of students that attend averages at about 50 and we had a blast! I'm also a Peer Mentor and President of a history club at my University.

I break things down by using the things people love as examples. I also think that having humor while going over tough concepts helps relax students and in turn helps them retain the information. History and the humanities are structured enough, so I like to maintain a laid-back atmosphere that encourages friendly dialogue. I love to laugh and have a great sense of humor. I'm definitely not your typical historian! My passion for history comes alive when I am teaching 1:1 or in a large group at the Workshops I host. The most important lesson I want a student to takeaway from our time together is the importance of thinking critically when dealing with history. Understanding how to read a source and analyzing the historical event is the most important skill for a student of history to use.
