About Derek
As a History and an Anthropology graduate I have written countless research papers and analysed thousands of articles. I was a middle school teacher for two years in the Peace Corps where I lived in a culturally diverse environment. I taught hundreds of students every day in class sizes that ranged from twenty to thirty-five individuals. I managed English language clubs as well as provided tutoring and small group lessons.

I have found that I prefer teaching through interactive and heavily contextualized lessons and activities. When I taught English language classes I would often use a teaching method called Total Physical Response (TPR). I would create interactive activities for my students revolving around verbal cues and physical responses as a more natural way for them to learn. I also diversify my teaching methods to cater to multiple different types of learning that students might respond to.
