About Joel
Originally from Lancaster (where I was head boy at Lancaster Royal Grammar School) I went on to study at St John's College, University of Oxford.
After graduating (and a very brief stint as a shoe-shiner) I started tutoring as a means to support the pursuit of a career in acting. What was originally a practical decision has turned out to be one of the best choices I have ever made. During the last decade I have had the privilege to tutor some truly wonderful students in History, English and History of Art. It's a career I care about deeply.
I find great satisfaction and enjoyment in the process of supporting their educational development. I have a particular interest in helping reluctant learners find their passion and enthusiasm for learning. Some of my proudest moments as a tutor have come when students with low self-esteem and little expectation of their own abilities realise the value of, and power that comes with, knowledge.
Outside of tutoring I work for an award-winning charity, Alive and Kicking. I love design and illustration, films, cycling and my Ocicat called Stevie. I am a tolerable Liverpool fan.
