About Leo
I am a recent graduate from the University of York with a degree in History and enjoy tutoring students taking GCSE and A-Level exams! Currently working as a freelance journalist on two daily sports news websites. Since completing GCSEs, my area of academic distinction has been optimising the concision and accuracy of written work in the humanities. This applies to coursework, essays, articles, note-taking, presentations.
I have worked as a website editor since 2016 and possess experience of training new writers to produce content in accordance with the house style. This includes delegating tasks and providing live detailed feedback. Moreover, as an A-Level student, I worked closely with AS students to help them identify and execute the key tasks demanded of them in exams.
Having very recently experienced GCSEs/A-Levels, I understand how students taking these exams can possibly feel overloaded by information and unsure of what exactly they need to do in order to enter the highest band. While I am not blessed with formal teaching experience, I consider myself to be a very strong communicator and somebody who can distil the essay-writing process down to a simple structure which, when learned, can guarantee that students do not miss any key aspects of what the marking scheme demands.
The teenage mind, as I have seen, benefits from two main things when studying for exams:
(1) Being spoken to in a language that they understand
(2) Being taught a clear structure that simplifies writing essays under time pressure
I believe that I can satisfy these two crucial aspects. It is not my interest to address students as a teacher would; my strength is in communicating the GCSE/A-Level process to students in a way that gives it clear signposts.
