About Hannah
I am a California State University history major, currently a senior in the process of graduating this coming Spring and applying for the Master's and Teaching Credential program here in Sacramento. Throughout high school, I enrolled in and passed the AP History exams available, and my college experiences have included roughly one hundred credits worth of history and social studies classes, all with grades of A's and B's. I am also currently refining a paper which will be submitted to Clio, the Sacramento History Journal. I have known I wanted to become an educator since I was about 12 years old, and my passion for teaching has led me to discover that each individual student has their own unique learning style, interests, and difficulties in each academic subject. Similarly, even in classes that truly spark fascination in a student, the labor of essay writing and studying for exams can be extremely difficult and overwhelming. My responsibility as a teacher is to try various methods of education and immersion in order to best fit the learning style of each student, and to help them find the most efficient methods of studying, test-taking, and essay writing going forward with their schooling. I am always open to questions of any academic nature, and to honest feedback from the students as to whether or not my teaching methods are getting through to them.

My approach to teaching is to first figure out what learning styles best suit the student. While I have a passion for history and historical essays, many students find history and writing to be boring or difficult, so it is important to find creative methods to engage them in the material and excite them about the subject matter. Whether the assignments are centered around essay writing, geographical cartography, or varying methods of immersion in the historical periods being discussed, the educational goals can be achieved through hard work and dedication. I hope to become a lifelong educator of middle school and high school students, and I aim to address the unique individual academic attention that these age groups require. I like to begin lessons by obtaining a summary of what the student has learned thus far about the material. Then, I ask a few standard questions to discover what they find most intriguing about the subject, what they find to be most difficult to grasp, and what primary goal they would like to achieve by the end of the lesson. We will dive into the specifics of the assignments for their classes, and discuss how to set a plan in place to complete tasks one at a time in order to meet the due date.
