About Dan
It is a keen focus in all of my lessons that mistakes are a pathway toward learning; if we don't make mistakes, we haven't learnt anything new.
I am, and always been, a very light-hearted person, who enjoys teaching others. I have an infectious enthusiasm for what I do and it has always been a benefit to my teaching practice. Learning can be difficult and we all struggle in different areas. I am dyslexic and have always struggled with written or reading-based activities. However, with perseverance and finding techniques that work for you, your goals can be reached.
Teaching is my passion and I am here to do what I can to help.

Maths Mastery is the current approach toward the teaching of mathematics, supported by the NCETM. Over the last few years, I have studied this framework of learning and have put it into practice within the schools I have worked in (as both a Deputy Maths Lead and a classroom teacher). As an educator, I believe that it is my responsibility to use my knowledge to help others. It is never too late to learn about the fundamentals of maths mastery and put them into practice.
I specialise in teaching Primary School children and scaffolding their mathematical development. However, I am open to session with parents, guardians or anyone else who wish to improve their basic mathematical skill and develop their understanding. A typical lesson will only be half an hour long but involve plenty of discussions, mathematical talk and scaffolded questioning.
As mentioned in the advert title, I have a Ba(Hons) degree in Primary Education and a MA in Education. I have developed maths mastery across a school as a Deputy Maths Lead and have been hired over the last year for maths COVID catch-up.
