About Ammar
Hi, I'm Ammar!
I'm a 5th year medical student at Imperial College London.
I’ve deliberately left my grades and academic results out of this section - you can see those elsewhere on my profile. I think they matter, but I also think being good at a subject and being good at teaching it are two very different things.
What I pride myself on most is being personable, patient and able to connect with students as actual people. I want lessons to feel like a space where you can say “I genuinely have no idea what’s going on here” without feeling embarrassed, and where asking the same question twice is completely fine.
One of the biggest reasons I love teaching is seeing a student’s view of themselves change. I’ve taught students who have convinced themselves that they’re “just bad at maths” or “not a science person”, when often they simply haven’t had something explained in a way that works for them yet. Watching that turn into confidence is genuinely one of my favourite parts of teaching.
I strongly believe that where a student is starting from does not determine where they can end up. Whether someone is currently struggling to pass, sitting somewhere in the middle, or already doing really well and aiming for the very top grades, I want them to feel that improvement is absolutely possible.
I’m still a student myself, so I remember very clearly what revision, exams, procrastination and academic pressure actually feel like. I don’t expect students to behave like machines, and I don’t want tutoring to become another source of stress. I try to understand what is going on for each student, what motivates them, what knocks their confidence, and how we can make progress in a way that feels realistic.
Outside of tutoring and university, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, going to the gym, watching football and working on different projects. I’m quite personable, and I like getting to know my students holistically and as people, rather than just 'tutees' or 'clients'.
Ultimately, I want students to leave lessons feeling like someone is genuinely in their corner. Of course I want them to improve academically, but I also want them to become more confident, more independent and more willing to back themselves. That, for me, is what good teaching is really about.

I have several years of tutoring experience, and I achieved 9s in Maths and the Sciences at GCSE and A* in Biology at A-level.
My lessons are highly personalised. I don’t believe in simply working through a textbook or teaching the same lesson to every student. I first work out where a student is currently at, what they find difficult and what is actually holding them back - whether that’s subject knowledge, applying what they know, exam technique or confidence.
A typical lesson lasts 75 minutes and has three parts:
15 minutes – Consolidate: retrieval from previous lessons, reviewing homework and identifying anything that hasn’t fully stuck.
45 minutes – Teach & practise: clear explanations, worked examples and guided questions, adapted to the student’s level and learning style.
15 minutes – Apply & plan: exam-style questions completed more independently, followed by feedback and a clear plan for what to work on next.
I put a strong emphasis on exam questions and application. Knowing the content is important, but ultimately students need to be able to recognise what a question is asking and turn that knowledge into marks. Exam technique is therefore built into lessons from the beginning rather than saved until just before exams.
Students also receive structured, personalised homework and revision tasks between lessons so that progress continues throughout the week. I keep track of strengths, weaker topics and question performance so lessons can continually adapt as the student improves.
I teach GCSE Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Combined Science, as well as A-level Biology. My lessons are suitable for students across a range of abilities - whether they are struggling with a subject, trying to move up a few grades, or already doing well and aiming for the very top grades.
