About James
Hiya — I’m an incoming PPE student at Oxford offering tutoring in GCSE Maths.
I achieved twelve grade 9s at GCSE (including 198/200 in Maths) and studied Maths, Further Maths, Economics and French at A-Level. More than anything though, I know how important it is for learning to feel engaging rather than intimidating. I aim to create lessons that are approachable, and focused on helping students make meaningful progress.
I offer a free first lesson so we can discuss goals, expectations and whether I would be a good fit.

Having recently completed GCSEs, A-Levels and the university admissions process myself, I have a good understanding of the challenges students face — particularly when it comes to turning knowledge into exam performance and applying ideas under pressure. My aim is to help students develop confidence in their thinking rather than simply learn methods by memory.
For GCSE Maths, lessons are centred around understanding first and then practice. I normally introduce a topic or technique, work through examples together, and then gradually move students towards solving problems independently and explaining their reasoning. Lessons are tailored to the student, with optional homework and feedback to target areas for improvement.
