About Tommy
My name is Tommy Hu, a professional solo indie game developer. I have a burning passion for game development and computer science and would love to share my knowledge with you. I have 7 years of experience in C#, 5 years in Unity, and 4 years in competitive programming (LeetCode and contests), and finished multiple personal projects during this time. Some projects include a 3D Minecraft-like randomly generated voxel game, an online mobile app, a top 2% ranked GMTK game (the most popular game-making competition), and many more. The GMTK game was played by multiple streamers on Twitch and many YouTubers. I have also been creating an indie game by myself for the past 3 years with my own game engine written in C#, and I plan on releasing the game on Steam, GOG, AppStore, etc. In addition, I also scored full score in the Canadian Computing Competition before hosted by the University of Waterloo, therefore am great at computer programming and algorithms. I used C++, Java, and Python in the competition, and am fluent in those languages as well. Lastly, I am currently a UBC Computer Science student with an average of 91.2%.

A lesson consists of 1-3 hours, will be mostly held over Discord + RustDesk or Zoom (can be in person too but that needs to be arranged), and will be one on one. The time will be spent making a game together with me since, in my opinion, the best way to learn is to actually DO the thing you learned. After each lesson, you should expect to see visible progress in the game we make together. Lastly, I may sometimes give a very small amount of homework.
Why choose me? Other than computer algorithms, I learned everything else by myself the hard way. Therefore, I have a great view in terms of the difficulties along the way. I have also tutored many of my fellow students at UBC, and know what most people struggle with. My 7 years of C# experience also means that I understand the language's ins and outs -- anything from variables, classes, and structs to multi-threading, networking, and Linq expressions. I know a lot of people struggle with programming languages too, and because I have a deep understanding of programming, I can explain abstract concepts in a more visualized way.
I am looking for students from grade 6 to university, and it would be best if you like to play games! Coding and other game development-related experiences are not needed. Lastly, a computer is obviously needed.
