About Gihansa

Growing up I was always behind in school, I failed to adjust as my peers continue to move ahead. I was too embarrassed to ask for help and I never had the support I needed. One teacher changed my life, simply by offering the support I needed. I went from failing subjects in primary school to achieving all my goals and graduating with a perfect IB score, (IB45) which is equivalent to an ATAR 99.95. Students rarely receive the support they require when in school, where a teacher’s focus is split between many students in a classroom. One-on-one tutoring helped me and helps a lot of students not only catch up and feel confident but pushes them to excel past the average. I find great joy in helping students just as I was helped growing up. I am currently enrolled in the Double Degree Medical Program at the University of Sydney. Alongside my clinical endeavors, I have a passion for medical innovation and research. I have published scientific research about antibiotic development for antimicrobial-resistant bacteria and I hope to continue this during my tertiary research. I have done an internship at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute and have a Certificate II and III in Laboratory Skills. I have won several awards, such as -Silver CREST (Creativity in Research, Engineering, Science, and Technology (CREST)) by CSIRO -Gold CREST by CSIRO -Future Innovators award from the Australian Defence Force -International Youth Women’s Day Innovation Award -Winner of the Australian Cancer and Health Sciences Competition (ACHSC) -Top 3 place in the Science Teacher Association of Queensland Science Competition -Beverley and Jock McIlwain Award Young Women in STEM Student of Excellence -Year 10 Academic Excellence Award by the University of Sydney -Chancellor’s Award by the University of Sydney I was also offered: -Scientia Scholarship by the University of New South Wales -Melbourne Chancellor's Scholarship by the University of Melbourne -Lawrence Scholarship by the University of Western Australia Other than my passion for STEM, I love literature, reading and writing are both passions of mine. Alongside painting, drawing, and playing music.

About the lesson

With 6 years of tutoring experience, I have worked with students from different backgrounds, cultures, and ages. Alongside having more than 500 hours of one-on-one tutoring, I have also taught at organizations such as Police Citizens Youth Club. I have developed and run accelerated STEM courses for primary school students and have acted as a STEM mentor and a panelist for a Change in Action Problem-based learning intensive. I remember and understand the stress associated with school for many students, so I place importance on goal and target-based tutoring. Not every student has the same goals, and I take the time and effort to discuss, design, and plan tutoring around achieving a specific and personal milestone. I am experienced in all types of goals, whether that be catching up, getting ahead, settling into senior syllabuses, or nailing an exam. All lessons are done online, in the comfort of your own home, and save unnecessary travel time. Lesson links will be sent approximately 30 minutes before the scheduled lesson. Lessons can be 30 minutes or 1 hour long. Parents can request reports on lessons or progress toward a goal without any additional cost and I am always happy to have a chat about any concerns, goals, or plans. I tutor all students from Year 1 to 10, alongside those who do English Studies, English Standard, English Advanced (HSC), English, Literature, English Language, EAL (VCE), Essential English, English, Literature, English & Literature Extension, EAL (QCE), English Language and Literature HL or SL (IB).

She is very relatable and engaging as a tutor but still is focused and knowledgable. She is very patient and always works to fix my areas of weakness. She is one of the very few tutor where you can see they really care rather than only seeing tutoring as a job. She provides good resources and has flexible timetabling. I would highly recommend to both junior and senior students.
