About Sofia
I am an Italian international student, studying at MCPHS on a pre-med track as a freshman! I'm 18 and really into fashion but I have an immense passion for writing, so I really am looking forward to teaching who needs it most.

My approach as a tutor
As an international student from Italy with experience studying in both French and Canadian school systems, I understand that students learn and express themselves in different ways. I am currently pursuing a pre-medical university program, where strong communication, writing, and critical-thinking skills are essential.
I can help students develop their oral expression, English, creative writing, essay writing, academic writing, and dissertation skills. For writing, I focus on organization, argument development, vocabulary, grammar, clarity, and learning how to express ideas effectively. For oral expression, I encourage conversation, pronunciation practice, vocabulary development, and structured speaking exercises.
What a typical lesson looks like
A typical lesson begins with a short review of the student's previous work and a discussion of what they would like to improve. We then work on a specific skill through explanations and examples, followed by guided exercises. The student then applies the skill independently while I provide feedback and corrections.
For writing lessons, we may work on brainstorming, creating an outline, developing arguments, improving paragraphs, or editing a completed essay. For oral-expression lessons, we may use conversation topics, presentations, debates, or role-play exercises.
I always aim to finish the lesson with a clear understanding of what the student has improved and what they can practice before the next session.
What sets me apart
My experience across Italian, French, and Canadian educational environments has taught me to adapt to different academic expectations and styles of communication. I have personally had to learn how to write and communicate effectively in different languages and educational systems, which allows me to understand the challenges students may face when learning or studying in another language.
I also bring a strong academic background in science and pre-medical studies, allowing me to help students develop not only their language skills but also the critical thinking, structure, and precision needed for academic writing.
Most importantly, I want students to feel comfortable making mistakes. My goal is not simply to correct a student's work, but to help them understand why something needs to be improved and give them the tools to do it independently.
Who my lessons are for
My lessons are suitable for middle-school, high-school, and university students, depending on their individual needs and level.
I can particularly help:
Students learning or improving English
Students who want to improve their oral expression and confidence
Students who need help with essays and academic writing
Students preparing dissertations or structured written assignments
Students who want to improve grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure
Students who need help with creative writing
International and multilingual students adapting to an English-speaking academic environment
Students who want to improve their overall academic communication skills
