About Daisy

The act of teaching piano has always been deeply personal for me—an intersection of craft, empathy, and storytelling. Each student arrives with a unique rhythm, and my role is to listen closely, both musically and personally, to guide them with clarity and care. I ground my teaching in the fundamentals: accurate finger placement, coordinated movement between the hands, reliable reading, and internalized rhythm. But I never treat these as mechanical skills—they are always a means to expressive ends. I often say to my students, “Technique is just how we get closer to the music.” We spend time listening to great pianists, comparing interpretations, and discussing how music feels—not just how it sounds. This kind of dialogue helps students become emotionally connected to their playing. I’ve worked with students pursuing graded exams, writing original pieces, learning accompaniment for their school choir, and simply playing their favorite songs after work. One particularly rewarding experience was mentoring a student who struggled with stuttering but found that playing piano aloud gave him a sense of fluency and control. It became his voice. In our lessons, we use a combination of method books, improvisational games, and technology like slow-down software and digital notation to enhance the learning experience. My approach is holistic and collaborative—every goal is co-created, every challenge is a puzzle we solve together. I also emphasize mindfulness in practice, teaching students how to focus deeply without pressure and how to recognize when rest is just as important as repetition. To me, piano study is a lifelong relationship that grows richer with time, and my job is to give students the tools, mindset, and inspiration to keep that relationship thriving.

I view piano teaching as a partnership where student curiosity and passion guide every step of learning. My teaching style is adaptable, patient, and deeply personalized, focused on helping students build solid technique while nurturing creativity and expressive ability.

Technical foundations such as finger strength, rhythmic accuracy, and musical phrasing are taught through engaging exercises, carefully chosen repertoire, and meaningful theory lessons tailored to each student’s needs. Whether a beginner or advanced player, I strive to connect each lesson to the music and styles students love—from classical sonatas to jazz improvisation to contemporary hits.

Improvisation, songwriting, and ear training are key parts of the curriculum, encouraging students to become well-rounded musicians and confident performers. I also place emphasis on developing effective practice routines that maximize progress without burnout, and I regularly incorporate recording and playback to provide constructive feedback.

A memorable highlight in my teaching career was helping a student with stage fright develop the skills and confidence to perform at a community recital, transforming anxiety into artistic expression. My teaching is grounded in the belief that technical proficiency, creativity, and emotional connection must come together for music to truly inspire, and I work to foster these qualities in every student.
