About Margaret
I am currently an English Major at Iowa State University. I discovered a love for reading when I picked up Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss. From there, I discovered books about pirates, dangerous animals, and fairy tales. Soon, this became my main form of entertainment. I loved fantasy books and avoided all other genres. Until I was in 7th grade, I discovered Ender's Game. I saw more than the story, but the themes and a complex message. Soon after, I would write many essays about Ender's Game. I then took a science fiction class. It was full of deep discussion on topics that related to the real world. It was the class that everyone loved. It made me want to continue to learn. I want to continue to learn through discussion and bring my passion to the table. I have had my fair share of struggles. I am a poor speller and grammar never made sense. I then came to college and it was very important to learn. This is when I discovered linguistics. I have learned so much about grammar and our language structure. I struggled for so long that I now understand how to help others who struggle. Fun Facts - I am a Christian - I wrestled for three years in high school and placed at state every single year. - I am currently engaged and getting married in the summer - I learned how to ride a horse in 5th grade - I used to play the flute - I love to paint (although I am not very good) Summer is my favorite season

The goal is to develop critical thinking while having fun. I teach how to analyze different authors' works, essay writing, and grammatical structure. There is nothing that you read that I will not. I am here to learn alongside you and understand what it is about Literature and English grammar that makes it important. My Beliefs: I don't have a favorite genre, and I believe there is a well-written book, non-fiction or fiction, in every genre. I would love to work with you to find a book that interests you. To read and to write is the greatest gift of all. I strongly believe books shape our world today, and my passion shows through in my lessons. The basic, flexible structure of my lessons for older students ages 12-18 will include: An ice breaker: To get to know each other and start talking Discussion: To share thoughts and analyze texts Instruction: To dive deeper into the content Assignment: Together or at home, this assures we can make the most out of our time together I want to tailor this for individuals in the pursuit of learning. I look forward to meeting you.
