About Erno

Hallo fellow adventurers You will join me a journey of discovery of the world of two languages, Afrikaans and English. Afrikaans is my forte as it is my native language, and Afrikaans and Dutch was one of my majors. Although English is my second language, my job as an English editor (2008 to 2022) has equipped me with the skill-set needed to support you in your academic journey. My qualifications also include a post-graduate program at the University of Pretoria as well as TEFL certificate. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, famous French writer, poet and pioneer aviator, once remarked that a goal without a plan is just a wish. Adventurers have fixed goals in mind when they plan expeditions and so should you when you study. Your goal would probably be to do well in a particular exam. Whatever your specific goal might be, it would be best served if you follow a well-considered plan that covers all the bases. We will therefore focus on achieving those objectives which are important in ensuring your success. Some say that grammar, though the most important aspect of language learning, is also the most boring. That does not have to be true during your adventure. I make a point of being creative and flexible and will engage you through various teaching techniques and methods so that you can become successful English learners. My role will be to help you learn how to find the answers and solutions to the questions you may find challenging We will utilize methods such as word games, pictures and drawings, timelines, tables and multiple choice activities. Literature, on the other hand, provides us with an insightful view into what the writer wants to depict to us. Let’s put ourselves in the shoes of the characters, work through the problems presented to them, come to a critical understanding of who they are, and figure out the truth. Let’s learn about ourselves by looking at the relationships that were formed and how the characters acted in a particular situation compared to how we would have acted. We will discuss the important questions as we go. What is the structure and the theme of the work? What is happening now? What will probably happen next? Who is speaking or narrating the story? How are the main characters being portrayed? Are other books or musical performances being referenced and what is the purpose of that? If you are able to answer these questions clearly and in detail, you should be able to do well in the exam. Its time for the adventure to start. Are you ready? Then let’s do some studying. Example of the typical structure of a grammar lesson Core content The past perfect simple tense is a used to describe the relationship between two actions when they both happened in the past, but the one happened before the other. (The subject material is covered by 3.4 (Language Structures) of the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) of the Department of Basic Education.) Introduction The concept is introduced introduce through the song “If I had never met you,” by Brad Yunek and Dan Keseloff. Lyrics: If I had never met you What would I be now? I’d would be incomplete and wasted, a man who lived without Body Use a timeline to analyze the sentence: Consolidation Exercise: The students choose the correct verbs to complete a number of sample sentences. They then have to write a sentence on what they did the previous day using the past perfect and past tenses. Lyrics: If I had never met you What would I be now?
