About Tara
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Relations from Victoria University of Wellington, and I am currently completing a Postgraduate Diploma in International Security. My academic background has given me strong skills in reading, writing, critical thinking, and structured analysis — all of which I bring into my tutoring. I have experience tutoring children aged 10–14, helping them strengthen their English skills, build confidence, and prepare for academic success. I have also worked as a nanny for two families, where I supported children’s development through homework help, organization, and creating positive learning environments. In addition, I volunteer at the SPCA, where I further developed my patience, responsibility, and ability to connect with different people (and animals!)

I focus on creating a supportive, engaging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and actively participating. My teaching style is student-centered: I adapt my lessons to each learner’s needs, strengths, and goals. I use a mix of techniques, including step-by-step breakdowns, real-world examples, and regular feedback, to build both skills and confidence. Each lesson is typically 50 minutes long, which I’ve found to be the most valuable duration for maintaining focus and ensuring real progress without overwhelming the student. In terms of experience, I have tutored children aged 10 to 14 years old, helping them develop strong foundations in English. I am currently focused on tutoring NCEA Level 1 and 2 English, but I am also happy to work with younger students who may need extra support in their studies. As a bilingual tutor, I can assist students from diverse language backgrounds, making learning more accessible and personalized where needed.
